Warm apple compote with raspberry sauce, Duchniak’s, Wakefield

Where: Duchniak’s Polish Restaurant, 212-214 Kirkgate, Wakefield, WF1 1UF

When: 9th September 2017

Duchniak’s in Wakefield will always hold a special place in my life. When I worked in Wakefield it was my go-to place between work and tae kwon do & kickboxing classes. Now I visit every time I come back to Wakefield to catch up with friends.

Duchniak’s serves delicious Polish cuisine. The owner, Aneta, and staff are knowledgeable, friendly and obliging when it comes to knowing what’s vegan on the menu. Vegan options include beetroot soup with mushroom ravioli, dumplings stuffed with cabbage and mushroom, and various lovely freshly made salads such as beetroot salad or sauerkraut salad.

The lovely waitress was excited to inform me they now have a dessert that is suitable for vegans, so how could I resist! So in between numerous herbal teas (they have a great selection of these too!) I ordered the warm apple compote with raspberry sauce, it did not disappoint, far from the slightly monotonous fruit salad that some places cobble together as an option, this was beautifully presented, delicious, garnished with fresh mint leaves and blueberries. A lovely warming treat for a rainy Yorkshire September evening.
