Where: Mrs Green’s Tea Lounge, 16 Queensberry Street, Dumfries, Scotland, DG1 1EX
When: 22nd January 2018
Mrs Green’s Tea Lounge is a retro-themed tea room nestled in the centre of Dumfries with a separate vegan menu alongside their omnivore offerings.
I went for the ‘Bagpipe bap’, vegan haggis in a white bap with fresh greens, a garnish of salad, couscous and tortilla chips. I’ve tried a few vegan haggis (apparently haggis is the plural of haggis) and heard meat-eaters say they prefer the vegan kind too! A delicious mix of oats and beans and spices, it’s a great Scottish delicacy and this one was no exception. It was lovely and moist and went well as a sandwich filling coupled with tangy picalilli.
My parents kindly accompanied me and enjoyed a generous platter type dish with houmous, sundried tomatoes, olives, salad and pitta bread, and a panini stuffed with courgette, sundried tomatoes and houmous.
Mrs Green’s also serve a range of vegan cakes and desserts, but I had to rush off for an appointment, I hope to return soon to give those a go!
