Where: I Love Café, 10 Treasury Court, Fisher Street, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8RF
When: 24th February 2018
A slow and arduous cycle from Lockerbie to Carlisle was made worth it by a visit to the bright and welcoming I Love Café.
A cosy and kitsch café decorated with bunting, beautiful murals, positive messages and vintage books on the table, I Love Café is nestled in a courtyard in the midst of the beautiful historic city of Carlisle. The soup is usually vegan and they were happy to whip up a wrap of my choice of ingredients, hot or cold. I chose avocado, spinach, red peppers and caramelised onion, it came in a wholewheat wrap, with a side salad and tortilla chips. It tasted really fresh and it was a lovely touch that she just whipped it up and was flexible about ingredients.
I was delighted to find that they now, more often than not, stock vegan cakes. I tried the oreo mini loaf cake – a chocolate loaf topped with vegan butter icing and crumbled oreos. It was a great sweet treat, without being overly rich and went nicely with refreshing pink lemonade. They also have plant milk for hot drinks.
I’ve been to I Love Cafe a few times, and without exception have always found a warm welcome from the lovely staff and delicious food in relaxed, beautiful surrounds with fun attention to detail. It’s all very reasonably priced too, it cost me around £11 for a drink, wrap and cake. If you’re near the area I really urge you to pop in, it’s worth going out of your way for.
