Heap, Phaya Thai, Bangkok

Heap, Bangkok
A feast from Heap, Bangkok

Where: Heap, 290/4 Phaya Thai Road, Bangkok, Thailand

When: 6th March 2018

We landed in a balmy and busy Bangkok on a Tuesday evening, grabbed a train to our guesthouse in the Phaya Thai area of Bangkok and went in search of food. The small streets were busy with stalls selling pad thai, skewers of meats and bags of beautifully cut fruit – pineapple, mango and papaya. We grabbed some delicious pineapple, I was too hungry to photograph it (sorry!) and after looking at several menus for various restaurants, we opted for ‘Heap’.

Heap is easily visible due to a large mural announcing ‘Jack Lives Here’, and is a trendy, friendly bar and restaurant. Pricey compared to food stalls, however, it had a variety of side dishes and mains that seemed vegan, also I have to note that our eyes were too big for our stomachs! I ordered roasted cashew nuts, potato with fried chilli and gingko, and roasted shiitake mushrooms, he ordered potato wedges and onion rings. It was a great selection but could have probably fed 4. The gingko dish was very spicy, unsuprisingly, but went down nicely with a couple of Chang beers. We sat outside, enjoying the vibe and the sound of the lively band playing inside.
