In-Flight Meals, Etihad Airways

 

Where: Etihad flights EY18 London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi & EY404 Abu Dhabi to Bangkok

When: 5th – 6th March 2018

I always look forward to aeroplane food, I’m intrigued as to what they’ll come up with. As Etihad has numerous different types of vegetarian, I waited in excited anticipation to  see if I had picked the vegan option. I thought the ‘Asian Vegetarian’ option sounded, by its definition to be vegan and doublechecked with Etihad to confirm and they said that was correct. A note regarding this – I’m glad I checked as they must have marked it on my booking, boyfriend also ordered ‘Asian Vegetarian’ meals, and they were not vegan.

London to Abu Dhabi – Flight EY18

Shortly after boarding we had a snack of salted biscuits, these were vegan and ingredients printed in English on the packet.

Main meal was giant couscous with beans, tomato and herbs, side dishes were glass noodles with tofu and a bread roll with vegan margarine. Dessert was fruit salad and there was also a portion of soya milk to save for tea/coffee later. I was really pleased with this meal, it felt balanced and healthy, and well prepared. The glass noodles were a little chewy but apart from that, I was most pleased.

Breakfast was a vegetable chickpea curry hot wrap, this was a little odd, but I think this is probably due to the limitations of food preparation equipment in the sky – the wrap had melded into itself so the dough was all one and quite thick with a little filling. It was okay for breakfast though.

 

Abu Dhabi to Bangkok – Flight EY404

We weren’t too hungry or ready to eat in Abu Dhabi airport but looking around I didn’t think there would have been much choice. Now on the plane to Bangkok I was treated to a lovely tofu curry and rice, cool mixed bean salad, obligatory bread roll and fruit salad. All pretty delicious.

The flights were really comfortable, staff were lovely and helpful and everything ran on time. This was my first time flying with Etihad and I’d definitely go with them again. Not so used to taking photos in an aeroplane so the photos are a bit ropey, but hopefully it gives some idea of what they offer.
