Where: Pun Pao Steamed Buns, Arak Soi 5 and Inthawarorot Rd, Chiang Mai
When: 10th March 2018
One of the things I was excited about experiencing in Thailand before I came was trying new food, and I had not been disappointed. Somehow, even though available in some places in the UK, steam buns had passed me by unnoticed. So I was very excited to try vegan steam buns at Pun Pao.
They have a good selection of vegan buns, some sweet and some savoury, vegan options are displayed with yellow labels with the jay symbol – this means vegan here but in some places in Thailand I found this was not quite the case. There’s a fantastically written article about this subject on the blog veggieinchiangmai, which is also just a great resource in general.
We had a mix of sweet and savoury including fried baby bamboo with shiitake, custard and chocolate. The dough was light and hot and the fillings were great. Steam buns are definitely one of my new favourite things! Do not miss Pun Pao if you are in the Chiang Mai area.
