Where: Mango Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant, 13 Tanow Road borvonnivaj phanakorn, Bangkok, Thailand
When: 28th March 2018
Mango Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant and Art Gallery is a quick walk up the street from the busy madness of Khao San Road. A little haven of conscious food and a peaceful atmosphere with an option of seating on cushions on the floor or chairs and table. At the time of my visit, most dishes on the menu were vegan.
Firstly, I love the attention to detail on the first page of the menu they state their ethics and their belief in supporting organic and using seasonal ingredients. I found that within my experience dotting around Thailand, these statements also of using no MSG, palm sugar, white sugar etc are not uncommon in vegan and vegetarian restaurants around the country.
Mango’s menu, in terms of understanding what is vegan couldn’t be more simple and there is an imaginative range of items on the menu. Struggling to decide between a couple of dishes, I ended up with the tempeh burger, with home-made tempeh, mango pineapple salsa, hummus and home-made banana crisps. This was my first taste of tempeh and it was delicious, a very generous thick slab of tempeh and the banana crisps was crispy and fantastic. I also had a yellow watermelon shake.
They also serve breakfast and lunch too. If I’d had more time in Bangkok I know I would have been a regular here. Another ‘must visit’ restaurant!
