Where: Naifhun, 10 Na Phra Lan Road, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, Thailand
When: 28th March 2018
Across from the road from the main entrance of The Grand Palace in Bangkok, the street is lined with a mixture of cafés and clothes shops – ready to sell you shirts and long trousers appropriate clothing for the Grand Palace – note of warning, they’re pretty strict, I’d been getting away with covering my bare shoulders with a scarf but the guards told me this wasn’t allowed so I had to go and buy a lovely shirt.
This was my next to last day in Bangkok so I was trying to pack a lot in, after experiencing a little tuk-tuk scam that I can’t believe I fell for, visiting the lucky buddha, Wat Intharawihan with the standing buddha and Wat Pho with its gigantic reclining buddha I came to The Grand Palace but needed some fuel before entering the giant complex.
I stumbled on Naifhun, a cosy, friendly café serving Thai food and shakes at reasonable prices. I went for the tofu massaman curry, it came beautifully presented, (check out that star-shaped rice!), it was tasty, though quite hot, so if you’re not a fan of heat, maybe ask for it mild. The menu has a number of vegetarian dishes and most of these are vegan too. It was a nice place to step out of the throngs of tourists and do some people watching.
