Bonnington Cafe, London (2)

When: 31st March  2018

Where: Bonnington Café, 11 Vauxhall Grove, London, SW8 1TD

Bonnington Café is a really unique place, completely vegetarian and run by a variety of chefs on a rotating basis who come up with the menu each day; you can check who’s cooking on which night on their website. On the night we went, the food was cooked by lovely Iga.

Their were starters, two main courses and dessert to choose from. The boyfriend went for the tofu with rice and salad, I went for the quinoa and potato pie with steamed vegetables and gravy. What was nice about this was the two options were very different, the tofu was lightly cooked, especially considering what we’d gotten used to in Thailand and the salad was nicely dressed. The pie was delicious and warming, great comfort food on what was a very rainy London evening. As you can see, the portions were very generous.

Despite being rather full, I ‘needed’ to try the dessert, so we shared a delicious chocolate torte.

The café is cosy and has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, it is situated on the bottom floor of the Bonnington Community Centre. Having begun as a squat café in the 80s they have followed this ethos through to the present day, it is run as a co-operative and they are committed to providing affordable meals for diners. Prices are kept the same for all items and are set at £3.50-£4 for a starter, £9 for a main course and £3.50-£4 for a dessert.

Booking details are through their website as well as more information about the history of Bonnington Café. This was well worth a visit out to Vauxhall, slightly off the beaten  path.
