Thomastown is a lovely little town, with some great cafes, a river with a place to swim in, lovely little cafes, great walks and amazing ruins and history. One evening we checked out Bassett’s Restaurant. We found a couple of adaptable dishes and ordered a bunch of side dishes, it ended up being a bit of a feast!

There was the Middle Eastern Salad (€14.50); with baba ghanoush, hummus, pitta, couscous and chickpeas – ask for it without the lebneh – it was delicious, soup of the day, onion rings, mushrooms and fresh greens. Staff were friendly and happy to help with the menu.
