Where: Food for Thought, 5 lower Abbeygate St, Galway City
When: 28th December 2017
My fella and I treated ourselves to a coach trip from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and Galway City, by Finn McCools tours, the guide was brilliant, knowledgeable, humourous and even sung us a song in Gaelic. We took a picnic but by the time we got to Galway I was ready for kaffee und kuchen.
Wandering up Lower Abbeygate, we happened across Food for Thought, a vegetarian cafe with the promise of vegan cake. The vegan cake on offer was ‘double chocolate cake’, and my beau went for the vegan shepherd’s pie, with a couple of hot drinks. The shepherd’s pie was heavy on the top with sweet potato and normal(?) potato and the filling was a simple tomato and soya mince substitute mixture. Although the dish was simple, it was filling and warming. For me, the cake was the piece de resistance, an oaty base and a deliciously gooey chocolate topping, as you can see from the photo, it looks a little lost on its big white plate but this proved that appearance isn’t everything! I noticed there was also a good selection of Heath and Heather Organic teas, a lovely touch.
Hope you all have a fabulous new year. We’re hoping to go and get our geek on in Token in Dublin today. Greetings and salutations and joy to all.
