What: Clever Foods Ireland – Vegan friendly and gluten free treats made in Ireland
Where: https://cleverfoodsireland.com/
When: March 2021
It’s been almost a year since I last posted on my blog! This is for several reasons, the main one being I found it easier to post on Instagram, lockdown related busy-ness, and other life-related busy-ness. But I’m inspired to get back into writing again, alot more can be said in a blog post than on Instagram.
I was puzzled and disappointed at a large ‘vegan’ organisation promoting Nestlé and other huge brands that are well known to be unethical and damaging to human rights, animal rights and environmental issues. I know not everybody knows the truth behind the facade of the greenwashed and shiny images of these brands, and may not know alternatives exist. So I want to do something positive and help present kinder, less-damaging alternatives. So to restart my blog and to put my money where my mouth is, I treated myself to a platter of treats from Clever Foods.
Clever Foods Ireland make a selection of gluten-free and mostly vegan treats, made in Ireland and they deliver to all over the island of Ireland. As well as cakes and spreads, Clever Foods have a selection of items inspired by mainstream popular non-vegan treats such as smores, peanut based chocolate bars, toffee pops and wagon wheels. I got the Smore, Snickeroo, Toffee Pop, Wagon Wheel and Jaffa Cake.
(Unfortunately, in between my sampling, I broke my phone, completely smashing the screen and losing my photos of some these).
I sometimes avoid gluten free cakes, because I often find them quite dry, but these were spot on. The cake elements were delicious. My favourites were the Smores, Wagon Wheels and Jaffa Cakes. Fantastically hand-made goodies, and at reasonable prices. Give them a go and treat yo’self! I’ll be trying to vegan Not-ella spread next!
